The Los Angeles Lakers could make history on Tuesday night.

They will open the season with a highly-anticipated matchup against Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

This will be J.J. Redick’s coaching debut, and as per usual, all eyes will be on the Purple & Gold.

This time, however, there’s an underlying story that will steal all the headlines.

LeBron James and Bronny James could — and most likely will — become the very first father-son duo to play together in the NBA.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Lakers are fully expected to play their second-round rookie in the season opener (via NBA Central).

Nonetheless, they want to do so while the game is still competitive, so they’re likely going to do it as early as possible.

Charania adds that they want Bronny to get some actual competitive reps and minutes, so this won’t happen in garbage time as some people predicted.

Bronny left plenty to be desired during the Summer League and the preseason.

He doesn’t look ready to play at the NBA level, which is something scouts have said for months.

Even so, this is one of the greatest stories in sports history, and the franchise is more than willing to go the extra mile to please and honor its star.

Otherwise, it’s hard to envision a scenario in which a team would roll with the No. 55 pick early in the game, much less given their depth at the position and how poorly he fared in the offseason.
